New York Pro 2013 Preview #2: Big Ramy’s Pro Debut
This year’s New York Pro will see the long anticipated pro debut of 300 pound Egyptian bodybuilder Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay!

Is he in or is he he out? For months now bodybuilding fans have been hearing about a 300 pound Egyptian bodybuilder from Kuwait who was set to make his pro debut this Saturday at the New York Pro. So when the competitors list for the show was released a few days ago and the name Mamdouh Elssbiay did not appear, I got a little worried. The pro debut of Mamdouh Elssbiay, otherwise known at “Big Ramy”, has been one of the most anticipated events of the year. The legendary story behind this 28-year old phenom is that he’s only been training for the past three years and packed on an inconceivable 86 lbs. of solid muscle in just one year to win the Amateur Olympia. That victory not only garnered him his pro card, it also automatically qualified him for the 2013 Mr. Olympia. Anyways, back to my original question – “Is he in or is he out?” He’s in! But there’s a little more to the story.
Ever since he got into bodybuilding a few years ago, Big Ramy idolized Victor Martinez and it was always a dream of his to meet him. Now in just a few days time, he will be competing against the bodybuilder he most looks up to the most and will likely be battling it out with his hero for a spot in the top three.Training under the tutelage of IFBB superstar, Dennis James, Big Ramy will be hitting the New York Pro stage on Saturday, May 25th, close to 300 pounds! The bodybuilding world hasn’t seen this type of mass in a pro show since the likes of Paul Dillet, Jean Pierre Fux and the late Nasser El Sonbaty. It’s hard to believe that someone could come in that big and shredded with a tight waist, but it’s going to happen. My mind was blow when I watched a interview with Big Ramy the other day, just four days out from the New York Pro and he was looking unreal. Ramy was full, shredded, holding little water and when he stepped on the scale and the number 298 flashed on the digital display, my jaw hit the floor.
This is going to be one hell of a show for the fans and a special moment for Ramy. I can only imagine what will be going through this giant’s head when the first call out is made: “Cedric McMillan, Victor Martinez and Mamdouh Elssbiay”. I have no idea if it’ll even go down like that, but just the very thought sends chills down my spine.
