Miami To Host Pro World Masters Championships
Dexter Jackson, Toney Freeman and Troy Alves all set to compete
It’s long been understood that Florida is the residence of winter choice for many of our more mature citizens. And it seems bodybuilding is following suit based on the staging of the Pro World Masters Championships in Miami, this coming Dec. 9 and 10. The Masters is for IFBB pros of over 40 years of age, and the publicized prize money is $240,000, which makes it the third most lucrative contest on the calendar after the Mr. Olympia and Arnold Classic, respectively. We are told Dexter Jackson, Toney Freeman, Troy Alves, Pavol Jablonicky and Roland Cziurlok will be entering but the bountiful purse ($100,000 for first), which should attract a few more star names. Also Robby Robinson, Vince Taylor and MuscleMag’s Andy Harman will appear as guest posers.
Promoted by the singularly named Jarka, who staged the 1998 Ms. Olympia in Prague, it’s promised that several legends of the sport will be at special events, if not competing. This includes Lee Haney, Dorian Yates (who will do a seminar) and Lou Ferrigno, while a Lifetime Achievement Award is planned for first (1965) Mr. Olympia Larry Scott. As a support act an IFBB Pro Bikini with $20,000 up for grabs will be contested.
If you want to see a slew of bodybuilding legends in one place at the same time, then the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami Beach on Dec. 9-10 is the place to be. For details of how to obtain tickets and comprehensive information about the event go to jarkasgym.com.
