Syrian Bodybuilder Dies During Weigh-In for Competition in Mumbai

Blog

Heart failure determined as official cause of death

Mahmoud Ibrahim Alhdidi, a 29-year-old bodybuilder from Syria, died on the evening of Friday, November 4th, during the weigh-in before the Men’s World Amateur Championship in Mumbai, India.

Witnesses claimed that Alhdidi was ill before the weigh-in and had to be wheeled into the room on a wheelchair. During the preliminary event, Alhdidi reportedly fell, sustaining a head injury, and began vomiting before losing consciousness. Organizers maintained that Alhdidi died of dehydration — a common part of any competitive bodybuilder’s precontest regimen — but the post mortem later revealed his death was due to heart failure.

Toxicology reports and the chemical analysis performed on the supplements found in Alhdidi’s hotel room have yet to be revealed.
